U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said officers in Texas recently seized a shipment of 75 counterfeit Kansas City Chiefs Super Bowl championship rings.
CBP officers assigned to Houston’s George Bush Intercontinental Airport on Oct. 30 encountered an express consignment parcel from Guangzhou, China, manifested as “Hair Pins Metal.” Instead, the package contained what appeared to be the Chiefs Super Bowl rings.
Officers noted the “poor craftsmanship” of the rings, however, and detained the rings to verify authenticity with the National Football League, which is the trademark holder. The NFL confirmed the rings were fake.

Had the rings been genuine, they would have been valued at $750,000 “at least,” CBP said. The shipment was seized.
“Legitimate American businesses are often harmed by these global criminal organizations,” said CBP Acting Director of Field Operations Leslie Fleming-Luczkowski. “The sale of fake goods often funds money laundering, drug trafficking, and other illegal activities. CBP is on the front lines to ensure we protect the American people from defrauders while protecting businesses who play by the rules.”
CBP said its officers in Houston have made “significant seizures” of counterfeit items in recent months, including watches, baby toys, and FIFA World Cup memorabilia and apparel.
