Carson Beck might make some unique football history with Hall of Fame Game start

As we get set to watch the Arizona Cardinals and Carolina Panthers square off in Thursday’s Hall of Fame Game, it’s worth shortly reflecting on the NFL career prospects of Carson Beck. The Cardinals, as you might remember, used a third-round draft pick on the rookie quarterback. So, it stands to reason he may get at least one legit shot at their starting job, either now or in the future. (You know, unlike his Panthers counterpart, Kenny Pickett.)

But before we get a real look at Beck as an NFL player, it’s worth noting that he could make some rather unique football history on Thursday night. That, or join a very exclusive and quite peculiar club that I would venture to guess almost no rational football mind has really ever kept track of.

If Beck throws the first pass of the Hall of Fame Game, he may become one of the only players ever to throw the last pass of the major college football season and to throw the first pass of the ensuing NFL season. Honestly, there’s a good chance he might be the only guy to “accomplish” this.

There is a caveat to this outside-the-box fun fact. Beck’s last pass with the Miami Hurricanes was … an interception that sealed a national championship victory for Indiana in January. Oof:

Needless to say, Beck is obviously hoping for better results whenever he does get to throw the ball during the Hall of Fame Game.

Jacoby Brissett and Gardner Minshew II are both ahead of Beck on Arizona’s official depth chart at the time of this writing.
