Carrie Season 2: What's Next If The Series Is Renewed

The following article contains MAJOR spoilers for Prime Video’s Carrie series.

Prime Video’s Carrie may have been billed as a miniseries, but the final episode left enough story open for a second season, which is officially happening. Based on Stephen King’s seminal 1974 debut novel, Carrie is Mike Flanagan’s first series under his multi-year exclusivity deal with Amazon, and it released all eight episodes on October 7, 2026, to positive reviews.

Flanagan made some major changes in his Carrie adaptation, including setting the series in the present day and introducing other powered characters besides Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), such as her astral projector friend Emaline (Thalia Dudek) and an entire group led by the formidable Adelaide (Kate Siegel). However, he kept Carrie‘s grisly prom outcome the same, in which Carrie’s bullies dump a bucket of pig’s blood on her head after she’s crowned prom queen, and the protagonist seeks revenge by murdering almost everyone in the school gym — though in Flanagan’s version, Carrie had some assistance from the more vengeful Emaline.

Though Carrie‘s ending covers the prom night massacre in brutal detail, that’s hardly where the story ends, as there’s a lot more to learn about Adelaide’s coven, Emaline, and their adversarial relationship. Before it even premiered, Flanagan teased that he envisioned Carrie as a three-season series (via Collider), and now, he’s one step closer to making his “dream scenario” a reality.

Prime Video Officially Renewed Carrie For Season 2

It took less than two weeks after the series premiere for Prime Video to announce that Carrie season 2 is officially happening. In a statement given on October 22, 2026, Peter Friedlander, Head of Global Television, Amazon MGM Studios, spoke about how well the show was performing, particularly among the female demographic, and said that this “speaks to the enduring power of this story and signals that Mike Flanagan’s reimagining of the iconic IP has real breadth. We’re excited by where he and Stephen plan to take the story.” (via Deadline)

Flanagan, a longtime King fan and adapter of several of the author’s works, commented, “For 50 years, audiences have known and gravitated to Carrie White’s story. From the beginning, we imagined a story that goes far beyond the prom, and I’m incredibly grateful for Stephen’s trust and support in exploring what comes next.”

The admiration is mutual, with King having publicly hailed Flanagan as “the best adapter of my work.” On Carrie‘s season 2 renewal, King said, “I can’t wait for audiences to get to see what’s down the road for Carrie White. Mike Flanagan and I are excited about what comes next. It’s bound to be thrilling.”

Also thrilling is that this marks the first time any of Mike Flanagan’s TV shows has been given a second season, as most are standalone miniseries, and The Midnight Club season 2 was canceled. Beyond the Carrie renewal, not much is known about the show’s future other than Howell and Dudek being set to reprise their respective roles as Carrie and Emaline. However, season 1’s ending dropped some major breadcrumbs about where the show may be heading.

How Carrie’s Ending Sets Up Season 2

While many characters had their fates sealed—permanently—the Carrie finale left several questions unanswered, many of which season 2 will likely answer. Perhaps the biggest of all is what will become of Carrie White herself. The telekinetic prom queen murdered over 200 people, brought her house crashing to the ground, and left her mother for dead; she doesn’t have a home to go back to and is officially on the run with Emaline.

Carrie season 2 will likely start by showing where exactly Emaline is taking Carrie. The astral projector has a destination in mind, but she doesn’t reveal it to the audience or Carrie, fearing that Adelaide’s mysterious coven might be tracking the protagonist’s thoughts via the group’s mindreader, Caitlyn (Delainey Hayles).

That group, which existed largely in the background until the Carrie finale, will likely play a much bigger role in season 2. They’ve had their sights on Carrie since the premiere, and the story’s continuation could reveal more about who they are and what they want with the protagonist.

Emaline and the coven also seem to be bitter enemies, as the former calls the latter “monsters” while Adelaide tells Margaret (Samantha Sloyan) that Emaline is very dangerous. Both factions have proven to be lethal, with Emaline eagerly “taking the wheel” from Carrie to enact the prom night massacre, and Adelaide coldly killing Margaret when realizing that she will be of no use in Adelaide’s mission to track Emaline and Carrie down. For the first time in her life, Carrie White has total agency, and in season 2, she’ll likely have to use it to determine who she can trust.

More Seasons Of Carrie Would Be A Major Expansion Of Stephen King’s Story

Carrie White dies in Stephen King’s novel, and the author has never expanded her world in any of his books. There has also never been an official follow-up to any of the movies, save 1999’s The Rage: Carrie 2, an incredibly loose sequel to the Brian DePalma film that was originally based on an entirely unrelated script.

Thus, Flanagan will be exploring new territory in Carrie season 2. But what’s most exciting is that the Prime Video series has already proven it can connect to a wider Stephen King universe. Right before she kills Margaret, Adelaide makes an offhand comment about people having a “little shine in them”. This is a direct reference to King’s The Shining, with a widespread fan theory being that the Carrie and The Shining universes are connected, as Carrie’s TK gene shares many similarities with Danny Torrance’s shine.

Flanagan has no plans to remake The Shining, but he is working on a TV adaptation of King’s beloved novel series The Dark Tower. Flanagan also teased a Carrie–The Dark Tower connection, telling TV Insider, “I do think this all exists on a certain level of the Tower, and Carrie’s place in that bigger world is something he hints at very much in the book.” Whether that happens in more seasons of Carrie or Flanagan’s upcoming Dark Tower series remains to be seen, but one thing is crystal clear: this isn’t the last we’ve seen of Carrie White.
