I don’t think some New York Yankees fans have realized how good Carlos Rodon has been for them over the past few seasons. Rodon, who definitely got a hefty contract, has sneakily been one of the more consistent starters in Major League Baseball. 

Outside of his 2023 campaign with the Yankees, the left-handed 33-year-old has been lights out, and that includes some impressive signs this year after coming back from an injury.

Despite that reality, Rodon is still being viewed as the one player the Yankees could move on from if the new CBA requires teams to cut salaries and they aren’t grandfathered in. There seems to be an expectation that these contracts will be grandfathered in, but if not, Rodon was the pick.

“The New York Yankees are in an interesting spot. In an ideal world, they’d find suitors for guys like Ryan McMahon and Giancarlo Stanton who are not on good contracts at all, but there’s a chance they’d look to trade Carlos Rodon instead. Now, this has nothing to do with how good Rodon is, as he remains a frontline arm, but it instead is about the construction of the Yankees’ roster,” Zachary Rotman wrote.

In a sense, I don’t think it’s crazy to say that Rodon could be the odd man out, depending on how much money would have to be cut. 

The problem here is that the Yankees are a contending team and always need pitching, so moving on from arguably their second-best starter just doesn’t make a whole lot of sense.
