Coach Mike LaFleur‘s Arizona Cardinals shocked the NFL world with a Week 1 win at the Chargers but Jacoby Brissett and his teammates’ putrid offensive performance led to a 31-7 Week 2 loss to the Seahawks. Marvin Harrison Jr. had another invisible week while the The Cardinals’ Will Johnson-led pass defense was skewered at times by Seahawks QB Drew Lock .

LaFleur and the Cardinals will now have to move on after a tough injury to the promising young cornerback, based on an announcement made at practice.

“Unfortunately, Will’s got a neck…Potentially could miss the whole season…Sucks,” LaFleur said.

Johnson was selected 47th overall (second round) out of Michigan in the 2025 NFL Draft after leading the Wolverines to the 2023-24 national championship. He was projected as a future top ten pick for much of his career but nagging injuries caused him to slip to the second round.

Johnson’s durability became less of a question after he played in 12 games and started ten for the Cardinals during his rookie season. He had 10 pass break-ups, a forced fumble and 37 tackles for the Cardinals in 2025-26 but will now be forced to watch for quite some time.

The Johnson news came hours after an optimistic Jeremiyah Love update from LaFleur. Love and the rest of the Cardinals rushed for under 100 yards against the Seahawks but will have a chance at redemption against the 49ers on September 27.

Running the ball behind Love could be one of the best ways for coach LaFleur’s Cardinals to move forward against a 49ers offense that is humming on all cylinders. Johnson’s versatile coverage and tackling skills will be missed, but there is little time to waste as LaFleur’s team prepares to hunt after win number two on the young season.
