Boone Jenner and the Columbus Blue Jackets spent a lot of time together.

He just turned 33 years old, and he’s finally going to see a new NHL team as his home: the Washington Capitals.

Jenner signed a four-year $23 million contract on Wednesday with the Caps, according to NHL insider David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period:

Jenner was a second-round pick of Columbus all the way back in the 2011 NHL Draft.

He had played all 808 of his career games for the Blue Jackets, scoring 212 goals and dishing out 209 assists (421 points).

Soon, he’ll be suiting up for a new team.

The color scheme won’t change much, but Jenner will be in a key spot in Washington, trying to help the Capitals get back to the playoffs after a disappointing finish to last season.

Washington fans will also appreciate this news as they await a bigger decision — Alex Ovechkin still hasn’t made it clear whether he’s retiring or coming back.

Jenner is a center, so his choice doesn’t necessarily impact Ovi’s call — but he surely would like the chance to set Ovechkin up for a few of those signature slap shots.

That part remains to be seen, but the Jenner piece is done — he’s going to be a member of the Capitals.
