Can Kasey Kahne Win Truck Series Title With Spire in 2027?

· · 2 min read

In a stunning silly season turn that no one saw coming, Kasey Kahne is expected to come out of retirement in 2027. No, not for a special one-off race or a part-time schedule — Kahne is getting back behind the wheel on a full-time basis.

Kahne, 46, is nearing a deal to pilot a Spire Motorsports truck in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series, soon-to-be FedEx Freight Truck Series, for 2027. While nothing is official as of now, Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic reports that Kahne is all but signed with Spire.

After years of absence from the NASCAR realm, could Kahne be competitive with Spire next year?

Kahne Could Become Second Oldest Truck Champion in History

At 51 years, four months and 24 days, Ron Hornaday Jr. is the oldest champion in NASCAR Truck Series history. Kahne, who will turn 47 next April, could become the second oldest Truck Series champion if he is able to hoist the big trophy at the end of the season.

With his lengthy time out of NASCAR, is it plausible Kahne could be a championship contender?

The Washington native has a strong record in the Craftsman Truck Series with five victories in just six starts. However, Kahne has not gotten behind the wheel of a truck since 2015.

There is no doubt Kahne will have the resources to be competitive. Spire Motorsports has 12 victories in the Craftsman Truck Series over the course of 90 races. With strong equipment, Kahne could emerge as a contender for the Truck Series title.

Kahne has never won a championship in any of NASCAR’s top three levels. His best Cup points finish was fourth in 2012.

Details of Kasey Kahne’s Shocking NASCAR Return

For the first time since 2018, Kasey Kahne will compete in NASCAR full-time. While it will not be at NASCAR’s premier level, Kahne is going to have a crack at the Craftsman Truck Series field in 2027.

In an article via The Athletic, Jordan Bianchi reported that the former Hendrick Motorsports driver is expected to sign with Spire Motorsports to compete in the Craftsman Truck Series.

“[Kahne is] expected to sign with Spire Motorsports to take the wheel of one of the team’s entries in the Truck Series for the entire 2027 season, according to sources briefed on the situation and granted anonymity to discuss the in-progress deal,” Bianchi wrote.

Kahne made a one-off appearance in the O’Reilly Auto Parts Series last year at Rockingham Speedway, piloting the No. 33 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet. The 18-time Cup winner last competed in the Cup Series in 2018 for Leavine Family Racing.

Kahne has two crown jewel wins in NASCAR, including the 2012 Coca-Cola 600 and the 2017 Brickyard 400, with the latter being the final Cup win of his career.
