Buccaneers' two-time Pro Bowl DT has requested a trade

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive tackle Vita Vea has requested a trade from the team. Vea’s agent, Collin Roberts, broke the news to ESPN on Monday.

Last month, Vea was a hold-in because of his contract situation during the Bucs mandatory mini-camp. At the time, head coach Todd Bowles said he was not concerned about it and that it was “part of the business.” Now, after contract negotiations have stalled, Vea will look to end up elsewhere.

He will be entering his final year of a four-year, $71 million contract and is set to earn $17 million this season, with none of it guaranteed.

Last season, Vea appeared in all 17 games, finishing with 4.5 sacks, 13 quarterback hits and 34 tackles. In his eight seasons with the Buccaneers, he has totaled 35 sacks. In the coming days, teams will be coming out of the woodwork wanting to sign Vea, who is considered a dominant run-stopping force on the interior line.

NFL veterans are scheduled to report to NFL training camps today.
