Bryce Young’s Sunday Night Football performance puts him in rare company

The NFL saw Bryce Young join rare company on Sunday night, matching a feat previously accomplished by only one quarterback in Carolina Panthers history.

In SNF win over Lions, Bryce Young joined Cam Newton as only Panthers in franchise history with 300-plus passing yards, multiple TD passes in prime-time game

Young became just the second quarterback in franchise history to record at least 300 passing yards and multiple touchdown passes in a prime-time game. The 25-year-old joined Panthers legend Cam Newton in reaching the milestone as Carolina picked up an important 32-26 victory over the Detroit Lions.

Young delivered one of his strongest performances of the 2026 season, completing a productive night through the air with 329 passing yards and two touchdowns. His performance helped Carolina secure its second win of the season and improve to 2-2 through the first four weeks.

The former Heisman Trophy winner has now thrown for 1,268 yards and nine touchdowns this season. Young has also contributed with his legs, recording a rushing touchdown and 19 rushing yards through four games.

The latest accomplishment puts Young alongside Newton, who remains one of the most accomplished quarterbacks in Panthers history.

Newton reached the same prime-time milestone on Dec. 19, 2016. During a 26-15 victory over the Washington Redskins, Newton threw for exactly 300 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the first quarterback in franchise history to accomplish the feat in a prime-time contest.

Newton played for Carolina from 2011 through 2021, aside from the 2020 season, when he spent one year with the New England Patriots.

Panthers look ahead to Week 6

Following Sunday night’s victory, Carolina will have some extra time to prepare for its next game. The Panthers have a bye in Week 5 before returning to action against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 6.

Carolina will travel to Philadelphia on Sunday, Oct. 18, with an opportunity to move above .500 for the first time this season.

For Young, the matchup will provide another chance to build on an impressive start and continue establishing himself as the franchise’s next potential star quarterback.

His latest prime-time performance already places him alongside Newton in the Panthers’ record book. With his passing numbers continuing to climb, Young will look to add more memorable moments as Carolina enters the second portion of its season.
