As the Cleveland Browns continue to navigate their way through the offseason, the struggling organization will look to begin a new era of football under newly-hired head coach Todd Monken in 2026.

On Thursday morning, the Browns officially released their 2026 NFL preseason schedule, with the three-game series beginning on Aug 15 against the Chicago Bears.
This year’s preseason slate for the Browns features one road game against the Bears, followed by two home games against the Buffalo Bills on Saturday, Aug 22, and the New England Patriots on Thursday, Aug 27. With the recent success of all three opponents throughout the course of last season, Cleveland’s preseason schedule will be an excellent opportunity for the organization to face stiff competition before the regular season.
Looking ahead at the preseason, there are many key storylines that Browns fans must watch for this year, with the quarterback battle between veteran Deshaun Watson and 2025 fifth-round pick Shedeur Sanders being at the forefront. While there have been multiple reports during the offseason stating that Watson holds a lead over Sanders for the starting quarterback role in 2026, this year’s preseason contests will help Monken gauge which player should win the starting job before the team’s Week One battle against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
In addition to the ongoing quarterback battle, the Browns were fortunate enough to land multiple rookies in the 2026 NFL Draft who are set to make a huge impact in 2026. This will be the first time for fans to see projected starting left tackle Spencer Fano live in action, along with the organization’s star wide receiver duo of KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston.
Finally, one important storyline fans are eager to see throughout the preseason will be how the defense looks without star defensive end Myles Garrett, who was traded to the Los Angeles Rams earlier this week. In return, Cleveland found their replacement for Garrett in 2024 Defensive Rookie of the Year Jared Verse, which means fans will keep a close eye on the prolific pass rusher during the offseason.
