Brown and Olise score as Bayern edge Dortmund in Super Cup

Bayern Munich started the new season as they finished the last by lifting another trophy on Saturday following a 2-1 win at Borussia Dortmund in the Franz Beckenbauer Super Cup.

Nathaniel Brown netted on his competitive debut for the German double winners in front of new Germany coach Jürgen Klopp and Michael Olise produced a moment of magic just before the break for the second.

Hosts Dortmund, playing in the season curtain-raiser thanks to finishing second in the Bundesliga last term, pulled one back through substitute Fabio Silva on 75 minutes but ran out of time.

Ramy Bensebaini thought he had equalized at 1-1 but was flagged offside, with the video assistant deciding he was interfering in play irrespective of whether he touched Julian Ryerson‘s cross with his head. The Algerian defender was sent off in the last minute for a studs-up tackle on Ismael Saibari‘s ankle.

Jamal Musiala was not in the squad after twice collapsing with absence seizures in two recent Bayern friendlies. A change in his medication is thought to be to blame and the Bavarians hope he can return to a situation where his condition rarely flares up in games.

Bayern are big favourites for a third straight Bundesliga title under Vincent Kompany and start the defence of their crown on Friday at home to VfB Stuttgart.
