Brooke Henderson’s sister gives birth, names baby after course where Brooke won her first major

Brooke Henderson began her first round at the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship in a sweet way.

Henderson’s sister, Brittany—Brooke’s former caddie—gave birth to a baby girl early Thursday. Her name holds a special connection for both sisters.

“Her name is Sahalee, which really means a lot to our whole family, and the meaning ‘high heavenly grounds’ also has a very special connection,” Henderson said. “I can’t wait to meet her.”

Sahalee Country Club in Washington is where Brooke won her first major in this event. This year is the 10-year anniversary of the victory with Brittany on the bag. Henderson has two career major wins, the other coming in the Amundi Evian Championship in 2022. Brooke’s cousin Ryan is her caddie this week.

The 28-year-old Henderson is in on the leaderboard after the first round. She shot a three-under 69 at Hazeltine Golf Club in Minnesota. It would be quite a story for the whole family if Henderson wins the Women’s PGA Championship 10 years apart and with her new niece being named after the course where they first won. Brittany is Brooke’s older sister and is married to former touring pro Zach Sepanik.

“Honestly, what a way to start the week,” Henderson said. “Perfect start to get under par, hear my niece was born and doing very well, 10-year anniversary of when I won at Sahalee in 2016. Great day overall, and hopefully carry that through the rest of the weekend.
