The Denver Broncos just keep on finding ways to win football games. Even when they’re undermanned and struggling on one end of the ball, they’ve found a way to come away with a victory. Their Thursday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks was a prime example of their tenacity. Even with the offense struggling in the second half, Denver was still able to win the game.

The Broncos’ defense came up incredibly clutch against the Seattle Seahawks. With their offense struggling once again and Seattle threatening to take the lead late in the game, Denver’s defense came up with two critical turnovers. The second, an interception in overtime, directly led to Will Lutz’ game-winning kick.

Sean Payton had nothing but praise for his defense after the game, calling their unit “magnificent”, per Nick Kosmider. After some struggles to start the season, it does seem like Denver’s defense is rounding back into form as the season starts to progress.

The Broncos got their first interception of the game during the Seahawks’ second-to-last drive of regulation. Seattle was marching down the field, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba was carving out the defense. Denver’s defense came up big, though, as Kris Abrams-Draine jumped Rashid Shaheed’s out-breaking route for an interception. Had the Seahawks scored on that drive, the Broncos likely would have lost, as they were able to get a field goal in the final drive of regulation to tie it up.

In overtime, another Broncos defensive back came up clutch in the game. Ja’quan McMillan was able to lure Sam Darnold into making a tough throw and picked off his receiver’s go route attempt to give the Broncos the ball. Despite stalling out near the middle of the field, Lutz was able to nail the 53-yard field goal to give Denver their fourth win of the season.

Denver won this game with two of their best defenders in the secondary. Both Talanoa Hufanga and Patrick Surtain II were ruled out of this game due to an injury. They now have an extra-long break to prepare for their clash against the Arizona Cardinals next week.
