Welcome back, Bo Nix.
The Denver Broncos‘ quarterback returned to action in a preseason showdown with the Green Bay Packers on Friday, marking his first live-game reps since breaking his ankle in the divisional round of the NFL playoffs in January.
“I felt like exactly where I felt off,” Nix said after the game. “I think honestly I felt better. I think over time, the extra cleanup surgery was good for me because it put me back to square one, back to base one. I thought that I felt pretty good, as good as I’ve felt in a long time.”
Nix played the first two drives on Friday, going 6-of-9 passing for 76 yards with one touchdown. His first series was a six-play, 65-yard drive that ended with a perfectly placed 21-yard touchdown pass to running back RJ Harvey.
“It felt great,” Nix said of his opening drive. “Just like a typical year, going out for the first drive, there are always going to be some different things that you can grow from. I felt like for the first drive of the season, it was solid.”

Denver was up 10-7 when Nix exited the game early in the second quarter. Broncos coach Sean Payton was clearly frustrated following an eventual 33-13 loss, but he said, “I thought he was solid,” when asked about Nix’s performance.

Denver’s third-string quarterback, Sam Ehlinger, had more to say.
“That was awesome,” Ehlinger said of Nix’s return. “I thought he did a great job. Right back to postseason form, really. Didn’t miss a beat. Really happy for him. He’s in a great spot. He’s been looking good and clearly he’s feeling good, so I’m happy for him.”
The Broncos have one more preseason game (against the Minnesota Vikings on Friday), but Payton was not willing to discuss after the Green Bay loss if Nix will play in the preseason finale. The QB is certainly up for it.
“I think as a competitor, that’s an easy answer,” Nix said when asked if he wants to play against Minnesota. “I’d like to play as much as I can, but I have no control over that.”
