Broncos OT Garett Bolles had a shutout performance vs. Jaguars

During the Denver Broncos‘ 20-13 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2, Garett Bolles did something that you don’t see every day in the NFL. Though shutouts are usually reserved for pitchers in baseball and goaltenders in hockey, Bolles had the equivalent of a shutout against the Jaguars, at least as far as it goes for an offensive tackle.

Bolles was tasked with keeping the likes of Josh Hines-Allen and Travon Walker off his quarterback in the game, and he did just that. In fact, he didn’t allow a single pressure on Bo Nix in the game, marking the seventh time he has accomplished this feat since 2018.

Broncos LT Garett Bolles did not allow a pressure in 31 combined pass blocks against Pro Bowler Josh Hines-Allen (21) and Travon Walker (10), according to the NFL’s @NextGenStats.

It’s Bolles’ seventh game without allowing a pressure since the start of 2018.

The Jaguars did not record a single sack in the game and Bolles, for his part, did not even allow it to come close. Things like this are easily overlooked when skimming through a box score, but this kind of performance is as big a reason as any for why the Broncos won this game.

In speaking with the media after the game, Bolles credited the running back room and said that the Broncos “imposed their will” against a tired Jacksonville squad.

Now in year 10 with the Broncos, Bolles is starting to experience the kind of success the team hoped he would when he was selected in the first round of the 2017 NFL draft. He’s also starting to get recognized as one of the best left tackles in the league, finally, after being named to his first Pro Bowl last season while also being named a first-team All-Pro.

Bolles will now turn his attention to Week 3 and the Los Angeles Rams, a team many thought would have one of the best defenses in the league this season. Though Aaron Donald is back, the Broncos won’t have to worry about Myles Garrett on Sunday night.

It may have been difficult for Bolles to pitch a second straight shutout had he been out there.
