The Denver Broncos were left marinating on their mistakes after getting blown out by the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-10, at Arrowhead Stadium on Monday.

Coach Broncos news: Colin Cowherd sounds alarmSean Payton lamented their lack of sacks on Patrick Mahomes, who threw for 184 yards and two touchdowns. He also scored on a 15-yard rush in the first quarter.

Kenneth Walker III, meanwhile, had 23 carries for 173 yards and a touchdown, energizing the home crowd in his much-anticipated debut for the Chiefs.

As the Chiefs were annihilating the Broncos, FOX Sports 1’s Colin Cowherd pinpointed a potential issue.

“Sean Payton is going to tire of either Davis Webb or Bo Nix. Or both. Roster too good for this mess,” said Cowherd on X.

Nix went 17-of-28 for 131 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. He had multiple fumbles and was sacked four times.

The Broncos only had 176 yards, including 61 yards on the ground, in Webb’s first game as offensive coordinator.

While it was just the first game, Cowherd claimed that Payton could look elsewhere for answers. Nix is coming off an ankle injury, while Webb was promoted to offensive coordinator after previously serving as quarterbacks coach.

In a report from the Associated Press, the 26-year-old Nix acknowledged that they “didn’t play really well.” The 62-year-old Payton echoed the remark.

“Obviously, not a good evening,” said the one-time champion coach.

Even the addition of Jaylen Waddle, whom Denver acquired in a trade with the Miami Dolphins, did not help their cause against the Chiefs. Waddle only had one reception for two yards.

The Broncos will meet the Jacksonville Jaguars in Week 2.
