Broncos get good news on Pat Surtain's ankle injury after MRI

Denver Broncos cornerback Pat Surtain (ankle) received good news after his MRI on Monday, according to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Surtain “avoided worst-case scenario,” and his absence is “expected to be short-term,” Rapoport tweeted Monday. Overall, this is great news after Surtain went down with a non-contact ankle injury late in the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers.

Surtain was later ruled out in the second half. Before exiting Sunday’s contest, PS2 had totaled 21 tackles and one pass breakup through the team’s first three and a half games of the season.

The Ringer’s Tom Pelissero reported Sunday evening that Surtain’s Achilles is intact, which was a good early sign. Rapoport initially followed that up with a report on Monday morning that Surtain could have a stint on injured reserve, but the injury is not believed to be season-ending.

With Surtain and Riley Moss (ribs) both dealing with injuries, Denver’s down to Jahdae Barron, Ja’Quan McMillian and Kris Abrams-Draine at cornerback. The Broncos also have two CBs available on the practice squad.
