With Tarik Skubal on the mound, the Milwaukee Brewers will send their captain to the bench for Game 1 of the National League Championship Series.
The Brewers made a pair of changes to their standard lineup used in beating San Diego in the NL Division Series, opting for righty-swinging Andrew Vaughn at designated hitter in place of Christian Yelich and switch-hitting Luis Lara in right field.
Skubal, the game’s most dominant left-handed pitcher, won Game 1 of the Dodgers’ NL Division Series against Atlanta. Milwaukee opted for the rookie Lara in right field, though lefty-swinging Sal Frelick will almost certainly be used against a right-hander later in the game.
The Brewers beat Skubal in an Aug. 16 matchup at Dodger Stadium, two weeks after L.A. acquired th two-time Cy Young Award winner from Detroit. Catcher William Contreras batted leadoff that day, while Vaughn and first baseman Jake Bauers combined for six hits in the 6-2 victory.
