Brentford reiterates commitment to ensuring acceptable behaviour

Season after season, both home and away, our fans provide incredible support to our men’s, women’s and academy teams.

Bees fans have always supported the club with passion, positivity, unity and respect for those around them, and we want to ensure Brentford remains a place where everyone feels welcome, safe, and can enjoy watching the club they love.

Creating a space where everyone feels welcome means taking a clear stance against discrimination in all its forms. All types of discrimination are unacceptable, including racist, sexist, misogynistic, homophobic, transphobic, ableist and faith-based abuse.

This includes discriminatory chanting, songs, language or gestures, whether directed at an individual, team, club or wider group of people, and we continue to urge supporters to carefully consider their words and actions and the impact they may have on others, including fellow supporters.

Recent changes to the Public Order Act

We would like to make supporters aware of recent changes to the law relating to sex-based harassment in public.

The Protection from Sex-based Harassment in Public Act 2023 introduced a new aggravated offence under the Public Order Act 1986 where an offence is motivated, wholly or partly, by a person’s sex or presumed sex. In such cases, courts can now impose a more severe sentence, with the offence carrying a maximum penalty of up to two years’ imprisonment.

While not every instance of inappropriate, discriminatory or unacceptable behaviour will constitute a criminal offence, we believe it is important that supporters understand both the law and the standards of behaviour expected at Brentford. This includes conduct such as misogynistic chanting or sex-based harassment, and we encourage anyone who experiences or witnesses such behaviour to report it to us so that concerns can be reviewed and addressed appropriately.

If you witness discriminatory, abusive or inappropriate behaviour at the Gtech, please speak to a steward or report it using WhatsApp via the “Report an Incident” feature on the Brentford FC official app. Reporting incidents at the time helps our team to take immediate action, but supporters can also email any concerns to report@brentfordfc.com.
