“Brentford is a special football club” — Jordan Henderson departs by mutual consent with Chelsea transfer looming

Jordan Henderson has left Brentford by mutual consent ahead of a proposed transfer to Chelsea.

The 36-year-old departs after one season with Brentford, in which he made 34 appearances and scored once.

Chelsea are interested in signing the former Liverpool captain as the West London side look to add experience to their dressing room. The Blues are also closing in on a deal for Danny Welbeck. A move to Stamford Bridge can now be facilitated after the termination of Henderson’s deal with Brentford.

Following his exit, Henderson has released a statement expressing his gratitude to Brentford for bringing him back to thePremier League.

His return to thePremier League helped earn Henderson a place in the England squad for the 2026 World Cup, where he became the first player to represent the Three Lions in four different World Cup tournaments.

“I leave Brentford with a lot of gratitude for the opportunity the club gave me, and for the support and care shown to me and my family from day one,”Henderson said.

“Coming back to the Premier League was really important to me, and Brentford gave me that chance. I’ll always be thankful for that.

“I hope I was able to play my part in helping the team through an important period for the club. We achieved a lot together last season, and it’s something everyone involved should be proud of.
