Brendan Sorsby ruling has schools mulling playing Texas Tech | Report

Texas judge Ken Curry’s decision to block the NCAA’s ruling declaring former Cincinnati Bearcats and current Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby ineligible has athletic directors from other schools debating whether to play the Red Raiders, according to a report from Yahoo Sports’ Ross Dellenger.

“We’ve had some serious conversation about it,” Kansas State AD Gene Taylor said, per Dellenger. “There is still a lot to be discussed. We aren’t scheduled to play them this year, but it’s something we have to look at from a college football perspective. This is greater than the Big 12.”

“It’s f—ing bull—-,” Taylor added. “I know the kid has a problem. Well, get well and focus on your problem. It is absolutely devastating for him to be able to play when every other sport, no matter the level, deems an athlete ineligible or they are punished severely for betting on their team.”

“I think there needs to be serious conversations about not playing Texas Tech in any sports,” Georgia AD and NCAA Football Oversight Committee member Josh Brooks said. “This is not about Texas Tech. It’s about protecting our own locker room.”

UC is scheduled to face the Red Raiders in its Homecoming game, October 24 at Nippert Stadium.

The NCAA ruled Sorsby ineligible and denied his request for reinstatement. Sorsby’s attorneys sought a temporary injunction allowing him to play for the Red Raiders in 2026.

Sorsby played the past two seasons for the Bearcats after spending his first two seasons at IU. Sorsby left UC for Texas Tech, which he chose over LSU.

Sorsby placed at least 40 bets involving IU football while quarterback for the Hoosiers, used sportsbook accounts registered to a family member and friends to wager approximately $90,000 over four years and continued to gamble after transferring from UC to Texas Tech, according to ESPN.

Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken indicated June 2 that he wouldn’t be inclined to select Sorsby in the NFL’s supplemental draft, if Sorsby isn’t eligible to play college football.
