After all the drama and controversy, Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is headed to the NFL after all.

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Sorsby is applying to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, which usually takes place in July.

Last week, Sorsby was granted eligibility to play college football for the Red Raiders in 2026 after initially being ruled ineligible for placing bets on games during his time at Cincinnati. However, it looks like the young quarterback is ready to leave this drama behind and head to the league.

“Star QB Brendan Sorsby is applying to enter the NFL Supplemental Draft, sources tell NFL Network,” Pelissero said. “After legal wrangling about his NCAA eligibility, Sorsby — regarded as a first-round talent — now could be the highest-drafted supplemental pick in decades.”

Sorsby could become the first NFL supplemental draft pick since 2019, when the Arizona Cardinalsgave up a fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft for safety Jalen Thompson. Sorsby is an intriguing prospect who is incredibly mobile for a quarterback and has a ton of arm talent, though he can be a little wild at times.

The 22-year-old tossed 27 touchdowns to five interceptions with a 61.6% complerion rate in 2025 with the Bearcats, and also added nine touchdowns on the ground.

With all that said, let’s take a look at a few teams that could give Sorsby a chance at the next level.

New York Jets

It feels like the Jets are always in the market for a quarterback, and they could give up a late-round pick to add Sorsby to their signal-caller room.

Geno Smith and Cade Klubnik are likely locked in as the top two quarterbacks for New York, but Sorsby’s dual-threat skillset could win him the QB3 job over Bailey Zappe and Brady Cook, who don’t spark much excitement.

Detroit Lions

The Lions have only two quarterbacks on their roster right now behind Jared Goff: an undrafted rookie, Luke Altmyer, and an aging veteran, Teddy Bridgewater.

Sorsby could walk into Detroit and potentially compete for the backup quarterback job. The 6-foot-3 signal-caller would add some much-needed athleticism to the Lions’ quarterback room, and though his accuracy needs work, there isn’t a better mentor for him in that area than Goff.

Cleveland Browns

Like the Jets, the Browns are always in the market for quarterback help, and maybe Sorsby could find a spot on Todd Monken’s roster.

Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel don’t inspire much confidence behind Deshaun Watson, who looks like the favorite to be the starter as of right now. Sorsby would be a solid pickup who would add even more competition to Cleveland’s group ahead of training camp.

Miami Dolphins

The Dolphins signed Malik Willis to a three-year contract in free agency this offseason, and also have Quinn Ewers and Cam Miller on the roster.

Sorsby could step in and compete for a roster spot in Miami, though it would be tough to beat out Ewers, who started a few games for the Dolphins last year and showed some promise.
