The Atlanta Braves are the best team in baseball and became the first team to reach 45 wins on the season. Atlanta has managed to accomplish this despite dealing with several key injuries throughout the roster.

The Braves have found a promising young arm in rookie Didier Fuentes, who has already filled multiple roles this season. Chris Sale recently praised the rookie’s electric stuff and composure on the mound.

“His stuff is a lot of fun to watch. It’s pure electricity coming out of that right arm. A lot of confidence in him. I think moving forward he’s only doing himself a lot of favors, maybe even getting back into the rotation,” Sale said.

Sale believes the future is bright for Fuentes, who has quickly emerged as one of the most intriguing young arms in Atlanta’s system. While discussing Fuentes’ rise, Sale also referred to him as a valuable hidden weapon in the bullpen.

“The versatility that Didi brings for that bullpen, he can throw one out and get the most important out of the game. He can cover three innings and bridge the gap to get it to Iggy. He’s kind of that secret weapon no one’s really talking about,” Sale said.

Fuentes proved that value on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates when he stepped into a high-leverage role for the first time. With top arms Robert Suarez and Raisel Iglesias unavailable, Fuentes was called upon to close the game and recorded his first career save.

“Fuentes stands tall at the end of a short pen and becomes the youngest Brave to record a save in more than 50 years,” MLB.com’s Mark Bowman posted.

Fuentes earning his first career save after being labeled the team’s secret weapon comes as little surprise. Sale, a future Hall of Famer with extensive league experience, has consistently offered high praise for the young right-hander, further highlighting his potential.

Fuentes does not turn 21 for another week, meaning he is still just 20 years old while already recording his first save in the majors. The Braves are excited about his development, and he appears ready for whatever role Atlanta needs moving forward.
