Bournemouth boss Marco Rose was proud of his side’s efforts, despite his search for a first Premier League win continuing for another week, after a thrilling contest with Brentford ended 2-2 at the Vitality Stadium.
Kevin Schade gave the Bees the lead in the 34th minute before Justin Kluivert expertly found the bottom-right corner four minutes later.
After Alex Scott blazed a glorious close-range opportunity, Marcus Tavernier put Bournemouth ahead minutes after the half-time break, following Evanilson’s lay-off.
However, a moment of madness from goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic allowed Brentford to level the scoreline with Schade lifting a composed finish over the stranded goalkeeper.
Substitute Ben Gannon-Doak almost snatched the three points for the Cherries, but his deflected attempt in stoppage time crashed against the woodwork.
The result sees Bournemouth sit 15th in the Premier League table, having also become the first team to have led in each of their first four games of a Premier League season and failed to win any of them (D3 L1).
On his side’s performance, Rose told BBC Match of the Day, “We were behind for the first time this season, we reacted well, and lucky me, we didn’t concede a late goal. We had more chances, more possession, we were the best team.
“Brentford is a tough opponent, they are good for second balls and have quite big guys and ballers as well. I liked how we competed, the way we defended in most situations. I like the way we attacked, our attitude. We were unlucky in a couple of situations, so we just get a point.”

For Brentford, they remain unbeaten four games into a Premier League season for just the second time, after also doing so in the 2023-24 season, the fourth game of which was also a 2-2 draw against Bournemouth.
Keith Andrews’ side also extended their unbeaten run against Bournemouth. The Cherries are now winless across nine Premier League games against Brentford (D4 L5). This is the most the Bees have faced an opponent without losing in the competition.
On Brentford’s display at the Vitality, Andrews felt his side could have “done better”. The Bees boss said, “I thought we could have done better. We did not hit the levels we set for ourselves.
“We come to a difficult place. They play a very specific way, and it was difficult to deal with at times. Equally, we did not make life easier for ourselves by certain things we were doing. Overall, I think it’s a point game.”
Looking at the positives, Andrews was complimentary of Schade, who bagged a brace against Bournemouth.
The German scored his fourth and fifth Premier League goals against Bournemouth, his most against any side; in fact, two of the four times he’s scored multiple times in a game in the competition have been against the Cherries.
“He [Schade] was electric, he really has. The second he has come back in pre-season, the way he has attacked everything. He’s in a good rhythm with his game. He looks very free at the moment, so long may that continue,” said Andrews.
