Reports that the Boston Celtics are asking for everything but the proverbial kitchen sink in potential Jaylen Brown trades may indeed be accurate given what we have been hearing from New York Times Minnesota Timberwolves beat writer Jon Krawczynski. Per the New York Times reporter, the Celtics effectively asked for the T-wolves best frontcourt players in return for the Georgia native.
“The Timberwolves explored multiple avenues to add another star next to (Ant) Edwards in the days leading up to landing (Charlotte Hornets point guard LaMelo) Ball,” writes Krawczynski. “There were discussions with the Chicago Bulls about Josh Giddey (as well).”
“They had talks with the Boston Celtics about Jaylen Brown” shared the New York Times reporter, “but the Celtics were looking for a package including (Minnesota big man Rudy) Gobert, Timberwolves backup big Naz) Reid and similar pick compensation that went to Charlotte for Ball”.
“That was just too much for the Wolves to pay for a soon-to-be 30-year-old forward,” reports Krawczynski in reference to the team’s pivot to Ball as a trade target they ultimately pulled the trigger on.
Brown, he relates, might be “a better overall player than Ball” but was viewed as not “as clean a fit next to Edwards”.
