Boos and jeers for Trump at NBA Finals in New York

US President Donald Trump on Monday was booed by spectators at Game 3 of the NBA Finals in his hometown of york/">New York.

Boos and jeers erupted when the arena screens briefly showed the president’s face as he saluted during the national anthem before the start of the game between the New York Knicks and the San Antonio Spurs.

The 79-year-old Trump, a Knicks supporter, was invited to the Finals in New York by Knicks owner James Dolan.

According to the NBA, Trump is the first sitting US president to attend an NBA Finals game.

“He’s a genuine Knicks fan,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said of Trump before the game at Madison Square Garden. Before his time in politics, Trump frequently attended Knicks games and often sat courtside.

The Knicks won the first two games of the best-of-seven series, which were held in San Antonio. Game 4 will be held at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday, as would an eventual Game 6.

The Knicks, who have won 13 straight games in the post-season, are in the Finals for the first time since 1999. The franchise is looking to win its first NBA championship since 1973.

Since returning to the White House last year, Trump has attended the Super Bowl and a US Open match.
