Bob McKay, one of greatest offensive lineman in Texas Longhorns history, dies at age 78

AUSTIN – Bob McKay, a College Football Hall of Famer and one of the greatest offensive tackles in Texas history, died Thursday. He was 78.

McKay, a first-team All-American in 1969, was instrumental in ushering in the revolutionary wishbone offense for the Longhorns that helped produce two of the program’s four national championships.

McKay was an NFL first-round draft pick in 1970 by Cleveland and played nine seasons in the league with the Browns and New England Patriots.

He has been inducted into the Texas Athletics Hall of Honor, the Texas High School Football Hall of Fame and National Football Foundation College Football Hall of Fame in 2017.
