Kevin Gausman‘s five-year run with the Toronto Blue Jays included one All-Star team, one pennant, and 53 wins, making him one of the most reliable starting pitchers in the American League.
That run ended Sunday, August 2, when the Blue Jays traded Gausman to the Chicago Cubs, according to a new report.
Ken Rosenthal and Mitch Bannon of The Athletic reported Gausman was traded to the Cubs, who are hungry for starting pitchers as they chase down a playoff berth.
According to Bannon, the Blue Jays will receive outfielder Brett Bateman and infielder Ty Southisene in return. Southisene, 21, was playing for the Cubs’ advanced Class-A affiliate. Bateman, 24, saw time at all three outfield positions with the Cubs’ Triple-A affiliate.
The MLB trade deadline is less than 24 hours away. Coincidentally, the Blue Jays acquired pitcher Jameson Taillon in a trade with the Cubs on Saturday.
