Starting pitchers are a creature of habit.

The way that Kevin Gausman spent his Saturday night before a Sunday afternoon start, though, can’t be the standard for the Toronto Blue Jays‘ right-hander.

Gausman and a few of his fellow pitchers spent the night at a Luke Combs concert.

The big righty even got out on stage and partook in some beverage fun:

Given that there’s really no way to know how Gausman normally prepares for a start, it’s hard to know if this is worth caring about.

Gausman clearly didn’t care much — he had to know he wasn’t going to fly under the radar in a situation like this.

He’s having a pretty solid season relative to a lot of the Blue Jays, putting up a 3.36 ERA so far. Still, Toronto has had a bumpy ride, and it’ll be counting on its ace to have a top-tier start to close out their series against the Orioles.

There are all sorts of stories of pitchers putting together legendary starts under odd circumstances, and this wouldn’t even get an honorable mention in that category.

Still, Blue Jays fans will be watching to see if anything seems off about Gausman on Sunday. But there’s always a chance the Luke Combs vibe is actually exactly the pick-me-up Gausman needed.
