Blue-chip LB decommits from FSU

The state-close-to-landing-edge-target-as-official-visit-looms/">florida-state-seminoles/3409/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">Florida State Seminoles had been on a tear in their 2027 recruiting class with three blue-chip commitments in a three-day span. However, they lost a blue-chip pledge on Wednesday morning as linebacker Gregory Batson reopened his recruitment by decommitting.

“First and foremost, I want to thank God for blessing me with this opportunity. I also want to thank the coaches, staff, and fans for believing in me throughout my recruiting process. After careful consideration with my family, I have decided to decommit from the Florida State University. This was not an easy decision, and I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the entire program. With that being said, my recruitment is 100% open. Thank you to everyone who continues to support me on this journey,” Batson said on social media.

Batson had been committed to FSU since last November. The Seminoles were hoping to shut down his recruitment on his recent official visit last weekend. It seemed like they were in a good spot after his trip concluded, but things started to take a turn for the worse for Florida State on Monday when Batson announced that his recruitment was still open. Now, here we are.

With Batson gone, FSU doesn’t have any linebackers committed in the 2027 cycle. They recently had Aaron Black from Loganville, Georgia, on campus, and they’ll host three-star CJ Ohuabunwa out of Norcross, Georgia, next weekend. Four-star safety commit Jaden Albright has been recruited as a linebacker by FSU’s coaching staff.

Needless to say, linebacker has become a major need for the Seminoles going forward, which means Ernie Sims will have to get back to the drawing board.
