Bisseck reacts to Inter draw with Roma: ‘We know we can always turn a game around’

Yann Bisseck believes Inter’s capacity to recover from difficult positions is now established, even if the performances that create those positions are not what they should be.

The German defender spoke Sportmediaset after the 2-2 draw with Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, where Manu Kone’s first-half brace was cancelled out by two Lautaro Martinez goals.

“We are never dead, but we know that we can always turn a game around,” Bisseck said, with quotes via TuttoMercatoWeb.

He was clear, though, that the pattern cannot continue. “The most important thing is to improve. In these first games we are not always at our level, we have to grow and improve. Sometimes football is a bit strange.”

Bisseck on Inter’s slow starts: ‘Good question’

Asked to explain the Nerazzurri’s habit of falling behind early, he offered no theory at all.

“Good question, I have no answers because right now I am tired. I have to focus on the national team.”

He also played down the idea that Cristian Chivu’s half-time intervention was decisive. “Chivu does not have to tell us much at the interval, we know what we have to do.”

On Roma’s start to the season and their credentials as challengers, Bisseck was measured. “It is only five games, the championship is still very long. They are doing very well, but so are we.” He added: “We stay focused on ourselves and we will see what happens.”

The caution is warranted on both counts. This was the third Serie A match in a row in which Inter have trailed by two goals before recovering, a run that speaks to their resilience but also to a first-half problem nobody at the club has yet articulated. Lautaro described the opening 45 minutes at the Olimpico as needing to be wiped out entirely.

Roma, meanwhile, had won all four of their opening fixtures and conceded only once before Saturday. Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are level with Inter and Lazio at the top, and the fact that a two-goal lead against the champions felt like a missed opportunity rather than a bonus tells its own story about where their expectations now sit.
