The Buffalo Bills are 4-1 after their wild overtime win over the Los Angeles Rams in Week 5. Despite the Bills’ AFC East-leading record through five games, there are issues with their offense. With D.J. Moore continuing to miss time due to injury, the Buffalo wide receiver corps looks almost exactly like it did last season, and that’s simply not good enough. That’s why the Bills must make a Brian Thomas Jr. trade with the Jacksonville Jaguars ahead of the 2026 NFL trade deadline, and here’s what that deal should look like.
Before we jump into the trade, let’s look at why Josh Allen needs a talented young wide receiver to throw to, and why Thomas is that player.
Right now, without Moore, the Bills run out Khalil Shakir, Keon Coleman, and Josh Palmer as their top WR trio. Those three players have 18, 15, and 3 receptions this season, respectively, and none have more than 256 yards. That puts these three 36th and below in yards and 57th and below in receptions.

Thomas isn’t any better statistically in 2026. The 2024 23rd overall pick has just nine catches for 105 yards and a touchdown. However, there is still potential for improvement here, as he put up a Pro Bowl statline—87 catches, 1,282 yards, 10 touchdowns—as a rookie.
Since then, Liam Coen has come in, the team has brought in and developed other wide receivers, and the chemistry between Trevor Lawrence and BTJ simply hasn’t been the same. Additionally, Thomas has struggled with both drops and injuries in the last two seasons.
Still, adding another pass-catcher with impact potential could help the Bills dramatically, and at worst, be Moore insurance if the veteran wideout continues to struggle with injury. Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane is surely “checking in” with Jacksonville, as he loves to do, but he should pull the trigger if the price is tight.
What a Bills-Jaguars Brian Thomas Jr. trade should look like

With the NFL trade deadline rapidly approaching (Tuesday, November 10, between Weeks 9 and 10), the next month should bring a frenzy of activity around the league. To gauge what the Bills should pay the Jags for Thomas, we have to look at three WR trades from this season and last.
First is the Marvin Harrison Jr. trade that just went down between the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans. The Texans sent a second and a seventh-round pick to the Cardinals for Harrison and a sixth-round selection.
This is way too much for Thomas. Yes, the Jaguars WR was also a first-rounder, and his rookie season was much better than any of Harrison’s campaigns. However, Thomas has struggled the last two seasons, was drafted 19 spots later than Harrison, and there is simply an added tax on the now-Texans wideout because his dad was one of the greatest WRs in NFL history.
To appropriately gauge Thomas’ value, you have to look at two trades that went down ahead of the 2025 NFL trade deadline. Those are the New Orleans Saints sending Rashid Shaheed to the Seattle Seahawks and the Las Vegas Raiders trading Jakobi Meyers to the Jaguars.
The Seahawks sent the Saints a fourth and a fifth-round pick to the Saints, while the Jaguars parted with a fourth and a sixth. That is more in line with Thomas’ value right now than what the Cardinals got for Harrison.
Additionally, Shaheed has more value as a premier kick returner than Thomas. So, it makes a lot of sense that the Bills’ perfect Brian Thomas Jr. trade offer to the Jaguars before the 2026 NFL trade deadline is exactly what Jacksonville gave up for the player who, for all intents and purposes, took Thomas’ spot on the Jags’ depth chart.
If the Bills send their own fourth-rounder and the sixth they got from the Indianapolis Colts in the Sedrick Van Pran-Granger trade, that. should bring Thomas to Buffalo and help Allen take his team to the next level this season.
