Wednesday’s Big 22 Player to Watch is back on the list again this season, and Channel 9’s DaShawn Brown learned there’s been a few life updates since we last spoke with Hough High School Cornerback Josh Dobson.
Dobson made it official this summer when he committed to the University of South Carolina, and the very next day, his teammate Davion Jones joined him.

Dobson told Channel 9 Sports that player development was a major priority when he was choosing a program, but the change to take this step with a friend was even better.
“Man, I remember the exact day he called me. I think about a day or two days before I committed, he was like, ‘Bro, trying to go to South Carolina and team up.’ Mind you, I already was thinking in the back of my head that’s how I wanted to go. So when he told me that, I was like, Oh snap, he coming to play with me,” Dobson said.
Here’s another perk: he’ll still be close to home. Dobson said he’s determined to make his parents proud, plus he’s also a proud brother to an 11-year-old sister. She’s a competitive dancer, and she keeps him humble too.
“She’d come hom, ‘Josh, they’re always talking about you, I don’t know why, you’re not good,'” Dobson said. “It’s just little stuff like that; I love hearing that from my sister because she keeps my head on the swivel. But in the game, she’s usually either watching, she’s playing around, but I know deep down she wants me to do good.”
Dobson said he wants her to be successful too.
“Honestly, I just want to see her be great. I know she looks up to me, so I just want to see her accomplish major things,” he said.
Our Big 22 previews continue Thursday with East Lincoln’s Jaxon Dollar. They’ll continue every weekday until voting starts for our five finalists on Sept. 4.
