Our long national nightmare without college football is finally over. Week 1 is here, and the world’s funniest sport is officially back.

Given that there are so many players on teams throughout the sport, there are some great college football player names out there that don’t sound real when you hear them on a broadcast or see them flash across the screen.

Unfortunately, one of our favorite names in Squiriell White is no longer in college, now playing for the Chicago Bears. But fear not, as there are several players with great names who will suit up for teams across the country.

Atticus Sappington, Oregon K

Oregon’s starting placekicker with a name that sounds like he is a British shipping merchant from the 1800s is back. He completed 79.2% of his field goals last year, missing just two field goals inside the 50-plus mark. 

Prayer Young-Blackgoat, Arizona State LB

Arizona State’s junior linebacker is of Native American descent and actually has a pretty awesome backstory. He grew up primarily wrestling and doing jiu jitsu, and didn’t get into football until later during his upbringing. Per the Arizona Republic, he is a member of the Navajo Tribe. Last season, he registered seven tackles including one for loss. 

And the best part? He has a younger brother on another team. 

Noble Young-Blackgoat, Northern Arizona LB

Prayer’s brother plays for FCS Northern Arizona, also at linebacker. As a freshman last season, he appeared in nine games for the Lumberjacks, registering four tackles. 

The Young-Blackgoat brothers’ names have already created a buzz on social media this offseason

Da’Realyst Clark,  Kent State WR

Da’Realyst Clark made it on our list last year, naturally. He is back for his second season at Kent State this year, accounting for three receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown last season. He started his career at Division III Defiance College in 2022 before transferring to Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan. in 2024.

Rocky Beers, Oklahoma TE 

The Beers family is well known in Norman, Okla., as Sooner tight end Rocky Beers is the older brother of former Oklahoma women’s basketball star Raegan Beers. 

2026 is his first season with the Sooners, as he started his career at Florida International from 2023-2024, and played last season for Colorado State. Across his three seasons, he has accounted for 53 receptions for 572 yards and nine touchdowns, averaging 10.8 yards per catch.  

Grant Beerman, Illinois LB

Speaking of beer names! Illinois sophomore linebacker Grant Beerman is back with the Fighting Illini this year. He played in 11 games last year for Illinois, mostly on special teams. 

Mohammed Bility, Prairie View WR

He previously went by “Moh-Bility,” when he was at Rice, but it appears in 2026 he is going by his full first name in Mohammed now at Prairie View A&M. Last season, he had two tackles for the Owls. 

Here’s to hoping he still goes by the “Moh-Bility” nickname this season.  

Sirr Bible, San Jose State LB

According to his San Jose State bio, his full name is Sirr Bruce Wayne Bible. He did not see any game action as a true freshman last year for the Spartans. 

Divine Love Onochie, DL North Texas 

Divine Love is entering his second season with the Mean Green, taking a redshirt last season. 

King Large, Missouri State, OL

At 6-foot-4, 316 pounds, Mr. Large lives up to the name.
