The Kansas City Chiefs and offensive tackle Wanya Morris could be headed towards a breakup after three seasons.

According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Chiefs and Morris have mutually agreed to explore a trade. Morris wants to compete for a starting spot, and that won’t happen in Kansas City with Josh Simmons and Jaylon Moore penciled in as the starters at tackle.

“The Chiefs and OT Wanya Morris have agreed to explore trade options, per sources. Morris would like the chance to play more and Kansas City has tackle depth,” Fowler said.

Morris didn’t see the field much in 2025, but in 2024, he started 11 games for the Chiefs at left tackle, allowing five sacks and 35 quarterback pressures.

Though the 25-year-old is a fringe starter and has struggled with penalties throughout his career, Morris is an excellent depth option with the ability to play both tackle positions.

Morris doesn’t hold much trade value, and it’s hard to see many teams being interested in the Tennessee product. However, there is a squad in the NFC North that could use some extra tackle help ahead of the 2026 season.

With Ozzy Trapilo likely to miss most of the 2026 season due to a ruptured patellar tendon, the Chicago Bears are set to have an open competition for the starting left tackle spot between Braxton Jones, Jedrick Wills Jr., and Theo Benedet.

Though Jones is the favorite, the Southern Utah product’s snaps have been cut every single year since his rookie campaign in 2022, with 2025 being his lowest snap count at 210.

As for Wills and Benedet, neither is an inspiring option to protect quarterback Caleb Williams’ blindside. Wills has struggled with injuries over the last few seasons, while Benedet remains unproven despite starting eight games last year.

If Chicago wants to add some competition to the left tackle room, trading a late Day 3 pick to Kansas City for Morris is a move general manager Ryan Poles could explore. A four-way training camp battle for the left tackle role would give head coach Ben Johnson, offensive coordinator Declan Doyle, and offensive line coach Dan Roushar a variety of options at the most consequential position on the offensive line.

Even if Morris doesn’t win the starting job, he would be a solid depth acquisition for the Bears and could fill in as a starter at either tackle position when needed.

Chicago should wait to trade for Morris and see whether the Chiefs will release him, especially if his trade market doesn’t develop. However, if the Bears can find a logical way to acquire Morris, they should do so to bolster their tackle group, which is still a weakness.
