The Chicago Bears have to hope a couple of teams across the NFL keep struggling at the level they have been all season. One team in particular, the Los Angeles Chargers, would be more than ideal.
The Bears have a need for improvements on both sides of the football, though this defense looks like it can still add another edge rusher who can get to the quarterback, even if it’s an older veteran just coming in for the remainder of the season to hope things work out.
Among the many options the Bears can choose from, Khalil Mack is at the top of the list.
Mack isn’t the same player he was a few seasons ago, when he posted 17.0 sacks, but he’s still well above average and could fit perfectly with what Chicago wants to do.
“Mack has actually recorded three sacks in four games for the lowly Chargers this season to go along with 14 tackles and 13 pressures. The former No. 5 overall pick was named Defensive Player of the Year in 2016 and is only three years removed from his last double-digit sack season, recording a career-high 17 QB takedowns in 2023. Wouldn’t it be something if he returned to Chicago, where he spent 2018-2021?
“Potential landing spot: Chicago Bears,” CBS wrote.
Mack has certainly lived up to the hype after coming in with plenty of it out of college.
The Bears need an edge rusher more than any other position right now, and some argue that if Chicago adds someone to its defensive unit, it could be the best team in football.
