Bayern Munich will have to wait for further tests before knowing the extent of Konrad Laimer‘s latest injury.
Board member for sport Max Eberl provided an update after Laimer was forced off, explaining that the midfielder suffered a knock early in the match and quickly developed significant swelling in his foot.
“Konny took a knock fairly early on, and his foot also swelled up quite quickly. That’s why we took him off as a precaution. It had already got to the point where he couldn’t walk anymore and had to be supported. You could see that. He wasn’t moving freely. I really can’t say today how long it will take,” Eberl told Bild’s Johannes Berner (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Laimer’s reaction was enough for Bayern Munich to take no chances, with the Austrian unable to move freely and requiring assistance after being substituted.
The timing is particularly notable with Bayern Munich preparing for the start of the competitive season. Laimer has been an important squad option for Vincent Kompany because of his versatility, capable of operating at right-back and in midfield.
For now, there is no clear timeline for his return. Bayern Munich will hope that the swelling is simply the result of the knock and that Laimer has avoided a more serious problem.
