In Bayern Munich’s Wiesn match against Union Berlin, Harry Kane scored from the spot in the 39th minute of play. Although a Harry Kane goal has become commonplace since he joined Bayern, this specific goal made history. Not only was this Kane’s 100th goal, but he did it faster than anyone else has — needing just 98 league matches to hit the century mark.
Kane broke the record previously held by Dieter Müller of FC Köln. In the 1977/78 season, Müller scored his 100th goal in his 129th Bundesliga match. It took another great Müller, Gerd of Bayern fame, 136 matches to hit 100 goals. Kane blew these still-impressive marks out of the water.
Kane did not stay on the 100 mark for long. In the 54th minute, he scored again. Including his goals in the DFB-Pokal, Champions League, Super Cup, and the Club World Cup, Kane now sits at 152 goals in 154 competitive matches for FC Bayern. The near goal-per-match average is outstanding, and if he can sustain it, we could see more records broken by the England captain.
