No one can know the mind of a football player, which is frustrating for the club that employs them. For Bayern Munich and Michael Olise it gets serious. The Frenchman is recognized as one of the top three best players in the world right now, and has attracted the attention of Real Madrid and Liverpool FC (among others).
FC Bayern, for now, holds the advantage. Olise is under an ironclad contract until 2029 with no release clause. However, in an interview with Sport Bild, board member Max Eberl admitted that the club will have to wait to find out whether Olise wants to stay.
“Michael has made extraordinary progress with us,” Eberl said when asked about a contract extension (via @iMiaSanMia). “At some point, we will certainly sit down and discuss how things should move forward.”
“He still has a three-year contract,” added the 52-year-old. “And I want to emphasize: there is no release clause.”
Of course, we all knew this already. What Eberl said next is the part that deserves careful attention.
“Let me put it this way: by next summer, we should know whether there is a tendency on his part to extend his contract or not.”
So, what does that actually mean? It seems that FC Bayern will give Olise another season before initiating contract negotiations. Then, if he indicates a desire to leave, the club would be in a strong position to sell him to the highest bidder, possibly for a world record fee.
It really boils down to one thing. Will Olise want to remain at Bayern? Time, as always, will tell.
