Bayer Leverkusen agrees €25m deal for Facundo Medina

Bayer Leverkusen has reached an agreement with Marseille for the transfer of Facundo Medina, according to Get French Football News.

Marseille has accepted a package worth €25 million for the Argentine defender, while Leverkusen has already agreed personal terms with the player. Medina is currently on holiday and is expected to travel to Germany once his break ends.

The clubs have settled the main financial conditions, leaving the medical, contract signature and official announcement as the remaining steps. Medina’s move has reached the agreement stage and should no longer be treated as early interest, though neither club has confirmed the transfer.

Medina joined Marseille from Lens in July 2025 through an initial loan with a purchase clause. The move became permanent this summer, but Marseille is now prepared to sell him after receiving an offer that allows the club to recover its investment and make a profit.

His contract in France runs until June 2030, which gave Marseille a strong position during negotiations. Leverkusen needed a substantial proposal to complete the deal, and the accepted package could make Medina one of the club’s most expensive defensive signings.

The 27-year-old spent five seasons with Lens after arriving from Talleres in 2020. He became one of the most recognizable left-footed defenders in Ligue 1, helping Lens finish second in the 2022/23 season and qualify for the Champions League.

Medina can play as a central defender, on the left side of a back three or at left-back. His aggressive approach, willingness to defend away from his own penalty area and ability to carry the ball forward should suit a Leverkusen team that expects its defenders to take part in possession.

He was also a regular member of the Argentina team that reached the 2026 World Cup final. That international experience would add another established player to Leverkusen’s defense alongside Jarell Quansah, who joined the club from Liverpool.

Status: Marseille has accepted Bayer Leverkusen’s €25 million package, and Medina has agreed personal terms. He is expected to travel after his holiday, but the medical, contract signature and official announcement remain pending.
