Bayern Munich announced that Javier Fernández will spend one more year with 1. FC Nürnberg. The 19-year-old Spain international first moved to northern Bavaria in January of this year and played the second half of the 2. Bundesliga season under Bayern and Germany legend, Miroslav Klose. In the Rückrunde, Fernández made eight appearances including five starts.
Bayern’s sporting director, Chirstoph Freund, had this to say about the loan extension, “Javi developed well and gathered meaningful experiences at 1. FC Nürnberg, despite a few step backs from injuries. The loan extension is the right step for his continued development. We are convinced that he will get the necessary playing time at the club and we are excited to continue to closely monitor his progress.”
Fernández joined Bayern’s academy in January 2023 from Atletico Madrid. He played for multiple levels in the academy before making his debut with Bayern II in January 2024. His time since has been plagued with injuries but he was able to get back to match fitness last winter before being loaned out to the 2. Bundesliga side.
