Bavarian Loan Works: Bayern Munich changes loan philosophy in new season

Bayern Munich has made some significant changes from last season in their loan policies. A lot of players that were on loan last season knew that they likely would not have a spot in Munich but did not get sold to the teams they were on loan too. With these changes, the number of loanees decreased from 27 last season to just eight so far this season (so far). Follow along as we track the loanees over the course of the season.

Bryan Zaragoza is the only player on loan to Spain’s LaLiga.

Zaragoza is now on his fourth loan stint since joining Bayern in 2024 and his third stop in LaLiga, where he must be comfortable as he hails from Spain. The left winger has nine LaLiga goals in two and a half season. He joined Espanyol last week after spending the summer with Bayern.

Espanyol fell to Real Sociedad on Saturday, but Zaragoza was not yet in the squad. Their next match is at home against Sevilla on Sunday.

Felipe Chávez is the only player on loan from the first team to Germany’s 2. Bundesliga.

Chávez spent the second half of last season on loan from the second team to Köln in the Bundesliga. This offseason, he signed a contract with the first team. He travelled with Bayern and scored four goals in friendlies including two goals and two assists against FC Rottach-Egern, a goal in South Korea against Jeju, and an amazing freekick goal against Heidenheim.

Chávez was on the bench for Magdeburg’s 2-0 home win against Holstein Kiel but did not make it onto the pitch. Magdeburg will travel the short distance to Berlin to face Hertha BSC on Sunday.

There are two players from the second team on loan to Germany’s 2. Bundesliga: Javier Fernández and Deniz Ofli.

Fernández remains on loan in Nürnberg, playing for Miroslav Klose, for the second season in a row. They are perfect in league play and beat Viktoria Köln on penalties in the DFB-Pokal. Fernández played the full 120 minutes.

Nürnberg hosted Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday and Fernández started and played the full 90 minutes again. He completed 94% of his pass attempts, created two chances for his teammates to shoot, and had a shot attempt of his own. He also committed and error that led to Bielefeld’s lone goal. Nürnberg won 4-1 and sits atop the 2. Bundesliga table through three matches.

Nürnberg will travel north to face Holstein Kiel on Saturday.

Ofli has been with the Bayern system since May 2023 and has played at the U-17, U-19, Bayern II, and twice for the senior team. He has also appeared for Germany and — more recently for — Türkiye at the youth international levels. This is Ofli’s first loan. He has started in all four matches this season. Last weekend, he assisted the opening goal in the first round of the DFB-Pokal against Preussen Münster. They moved onto the second round with a 2-1 win.

Ofli started for KSC in their home match against Wolfsburg. He and his team had a long day and allowed five goals. He had a blocked shot, a clearance, an interception, and four recoveries. He also completed 95% of his passes, misplaying just two passes. Karlsruhe was only able to net two goals and fell 5-2 at home.

KSC will travel to face Hannover 96 on Friday.

Richard Meier is the only player on loan to Germany’s 3. Liga.

Meier joined Bayern II in 2025 and played that Fall for the reserve team before going on loan to Unterhaching for the Spring. He scored a goal with each team. He joins Meppen in the 3. Liga for this upcoming season and has appeared for them three times, all off the bench.

This week, Meppen were on the road to Alemannia Aachen. Meier started on the bench and saw his team go up 3-0 in the first half. He came off the bench in the 72nd minute, still up 3-0. Meier received a yellow card in stoppage time, but Meppen held onto win 3-0 on the road.

Meppen will host Saarbrücken on Saturday.

Magnus Dalpiaz is the only player on loan to Austria’s Bundesliga.

Dalpiaz is an Austrian right back going on loan for the second time. He spent the second half of last season with AC Milan’s second team in Italy’s Serie D but made just one appearance. He joins Hartberg of Austria’s Bundesliga for the season. Dalpiaz was left on the bench for the first three matches, but has come off the bench for the last two matches.

This weekend, Hartberg faced SV Ried at home. Dalpiaz entered the match in the 66th minute with the match level at 2-2. Hartberg took the lead just five minutes later and Dalpiaz helped them close out the match. He only had 12 touches but was able to make a tackle, a clearance, and a recovery to help Hartberg win 3-2 at home

Hartberg will be away to Vorwärts Steyr in the Austrian Cup on Sunday.

Julien Yanda is the only player on loan to Spain’s LaLiga2.

Yanda joined Bayern from St Pauli in 2024 and has scored three goals in 40 appearances for Bayern II. This is his first loan spell, joining the 2nd division side, Eldense, in Spain. Through three matches, they are winless — two losses and a draw — and Yanda has been left on the bench in each match.

Yanda will look to make his debut on Saturday at home against Mallorca.

Anna Wellmann is the only player on loan to Spain’s Primera División Femenina.

Wellmann has played for Bayern three different times. She has over 40 appearances for the second team and one for the first over her first two stints with Bayern. She has also played for Bayer Leverkusen, Turbine Potsdam, and Sporting CP. She signed a three year contract with Bayern this summer and was sent on loan to Spain’s Liga F for this season.

Wellmann made her Eibar debut on Saturday at home against Espanyol. She only needed two saves to keep a cleansheat. Her teammate scored a stoppage time winner to secure the full three points in her first game in Spain.

Eibar will travel to face Real Madrid on Sunday.
