The Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) has issued the mandatory 60-day notice for the conduct of local government council elections scheduled for August 17, 2026, across the state.

The notice was contained in a statement signed by the commission’s Secretary, Nuru Abdulhamid, and made available to journalists in Bauchi.

According to the commission, the notice was issued in compliance with the provisions of the Bauchi State Electoral Law, which requires BASIEC to formally notify registered political parties, stakeholders, and the public ahead of local government elections.

The commission noted that it had earlier issued a 360-day notice in August 2025, in line with legal requirements, to give political parties and other stakeholders ample time to prepare for the polls.

BASIEC urged all political parties intending to participate in the elections to conclude their internal arrangements and ensure full compliance with the Electoral Law and guidelines issued by the commission.

It added that further details, including the election timetable, procedures, and other relevant information, would be released in due course.

The commission reiterated its commitment to conducting a free, fair, transparent, and credible election that would reflect the wishes of the people of Bauchi State.
