Barcelona’s ambitious Espai Barca project is facing a significant financial hurdle, with the club’s €1.45 billion loan from Goldman Sachs running out before the work is complete.

According to Diari Ara (h/t barcelona/2026/06/07/barca-queda-dinero-pedira-asamblea-ampliar-credito-acabar-spotify-camp-nou.html" target="_blank">MARCA), Joan Laporta’s board has acknowledged that the planned budget will not be sufficient to finish the renovation, and the club are now preparing to ask members for permission to increase the credit line.

The most likely moment for this request to be made is the Extraordinary General Meeting scheduled for next July, where the president-elect will also appoint his new governing body.

Other agenda items may also be added to the meeting. Alternatively, the club could wait until the Ordinary General Meeting at the start of next season, though the urgency of the situation may make that timeline unworkable.

Neither the Spotify Camp Nou itself nor the other facilities that make up the Espai Barca project, including the Palau Blaugrana and the development of the area surrounding the old Les Corts stadium, are yet finished. More money is needed to complete all of them.

The Camp Nou has already passed phase 1C, which expanded capacity to 62,657 spectators. Work is now focused on the two VIP tiers and the third tier.

The current phase, finalising approximately 9,400 VIP seats, is expected to run until the summer of 2027.

The final and most complex stage, involving the construction of the compression rings and the roof installation, will require the team to temporarily relocate at the start of the 2027-28 season. Where they will play during that period has not yet been confirmed.
