Barcelona player opens door to summer transfer amid rising interest from Man United

Manchester United are continuing to explore left-back options before the transfer deadline, with Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde now firmly on their radar.

The 22-year-old has long been regarded as one of Barcelona’s brightest academy products, but his position has become less secure following increased competition on the left.

United, meanwhile, are looking to strengthen that area after failing to make progress on a deal for Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Man United are among several Premier League clubs showing interest in Balde.

The report says Balde initially preferred to remain at Barcelona, but his future is now considered open.

His agent, Jorge Mendes, has discussed the options available to him, while Barcelona would not necessarily block a sale if they receive a significant offer.

Competition for places is a major factor. Joao Cancelo has returned to Barcelona and has already been used ahead of Balde, while Hansi Flick has publicly challenged his players to prove they are fully committed and ready to compete for their positions.

United’s interest has also been reported by talkSPORT, which says Balde and RB Leipzig’s David Raum are among the alternatives being considered after Newcastle made it clear they do not want to sell Hall.

Balde could be a decent long term option for Red Devils

Balde would be a fascinating signing for Man United.

He is younger than many of the alternatives being discussed, already has extensive experience at a major European club and possesses the pace needed to operate aggressively from left-back or wing-back.

There are risks, particularly surrounding consistency and his recent fitness issues, but his upside is obvious.

From United’s perspective, the biggest attraction may be opportunity. Newcastle have little incentive to negotiate over Hall, whereas Barcelona appear more open to doing business if the price is right.

That could make Balde a more realistic target in the final days of the window.

If United can secure him without paying an inflated premium, the deal would fit their broader strategy of investing in younger players who can develop alongside the squad.
