Barcelona goalkeeper attracting loan offers after international breakthrough

Barcelona have important decisions to make regarding their goalkeeping department this summer, which is looking a bit overcrowded.

Joan Garcia is the incumbent No. 1, and Wojciech Szczesny is also expected to stay on as the backup for at least one more season.

However, the futures of club captain Marc-Andre ter Stegen and Inaki Pena are far from clear. Add to this mix youngsters such as Ander Astralaga, Aron Yaakobishvili and Diego Kochen, and the situation becomes further complicated.

According to AS, several clubs from La Liga and abroad have submitted loan offers to sign Yaakobishvili.

The 20-year-old spent time on loan at Andorra during the 2025/26 campaign, where he had a good showing.

Andorra are also said to be interested in extending his stay for another season. The growing attention comes as no surprise.

A senior debut often tends to change the narrative around a player, and Yaakobishvili recently made his Hungary debut and put in a very good showing.

Goalkeepers need minutes more than anything else, and if Barcelona decide to loan him out this season, they should prioritise game time more than the name of the team.

Andorra’s interest in continuing with him is worth noting. Sending the Hungarian starlet back there, to a dressing room that he knows well, can help with his development. That said, he may have outgrown the second division.

Barcelona have a valuable asset

La Masia is generally not associated with developing goalkeepers for the first team, and this has been a position that Barcelona have usually bought for.

Yaakobishvili’s rise promises to buck that trend. Smart loans can make him a serious option for a first-team berth in the near future.

The Hungarian goalkeeper now has a number of options to choose from. A La Liga loan move would give him valuable exposure to first-division football.

Barcelona need to get this decision right, as it could accelerate or stall Yaakobishvili’s future, and it remains to be seen where the 20-year-old plays his club football next season.
