Vice President Kashim Shettima has described the late former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Bamanga Tukur, as a man who lived an exemplary life.
In Adamawa State on Thursday to console the people over the death of the elder statesman, Shettima said the death was a celebration of life because the former governor of the defunct Gongola State was a colossus who died at a ripe old age surrounded by loved ones.
Bamanga Tukur died last Saturday, September 12, in Abuja and was buried the following day in Yola.
Addressing newsmen at Bamanga Tukur’s personal residence in Yola on Thursday afternoon after meeting with the family, Shettima said Nigeria would miss the late elder statesman’s wealth of wisdom.
He said Bamanga Tukur, a former managing director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, was also a successful business leader whose life was an inspiration to politicians and businessmen alike.
The Vice President, who said President Bola Tinubu had sent him to commiserate with the government and people of Adamawa State, commended Governor Ahmadu Fintiri for standing by Bamanga Tukur’s family.
Shettima also visited the Lamido of Adamawa Emirate and Chairman of the Adamawa State Council of Emirs and Chiefs, Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha, who thanked the Federal Government for identifying with the people of Adamawa.
Bamanga Tukur, who died three days before his 91st birthday, is survived by two wives, 18 biological children and several adopted children.
