The Indianapolis Colts employ one of the NFL’s top talents in Jonathan Taylor, but the superstar running back could provide more value to the organization as a trade chip than on the field at this juncture of his career.

While Taylor has been a high-level contributor and key to Indianapolis’ success, he’s entering his seventh season and has racked up a ton of mileage since entering the league. Only Derrick Henry and Josh Jacobs have more touches than the 1,738 combined receptions and carries that Taylor has logged in that span.

While this might be a mutually beneficial trade for the Titans and Colts, now you’re talking about sending a star running back to a division rival and having to face him twice a year. Because, let’s be real, Taylor doesn’t seem like he’s nearing the end of his career. He still has RB1 ability, and it’s not like he’s responsible for the Colts’ inability to make the playoffs all on his own.

This would be similar to the Titans trading Derrick Henry to a division rival. That was never going to happen. The Titans would have been better served trading him before his contract expired, but they let him hit free agency, and he’s still tearing it up in Baltimore. But they aren’t facing him twice a year, either.

The likelihood of this trade happening is slim. The Colts may very well trade Taylor before he becomes a free agent, but it’s doubtful they’ll trade within the AFC South.
