Atletico Madrid have added Jonathan David to their striking shortlist, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With Diego Simeone’s side making it clear that they want to add a new number nine to their ranks before the summer transfer window slams shut next week, Atletico have made initial contact with Juventus over a potential deal.

While the Italian transfer guru might have reported that the Spanish heavyweights are yet to make an official bid or open advanced negotiations, they have been briefed over potential deal conditions.

Although the Canadian international might have only arrived in Turin on a free transfer last summer, the former Lille striker has drastically failed to find his feet among Italy’s elite.

Despite putting pen to paper on a bumper five-year deal just 13 months ago, Romano reported on Wednesday that Juventus are willing to already offload the 26-year-old.

Only mustering six goals in his 35 Serie A appearances last season and failing to hold down a regular spot in Turin, David was an unused substitute as Juventus opened up the 2026/27 campaign with a 1-0 victory away at Frosinone last weekend.

However, with Julian Alvarez at the heart of what has become an infamous summer transfer saga, Simeone’s side are desperate to bring in a potential replacement ahead of the September 1st deadline.

With the ex-Manchester City starlet making it abundantly clear that he wants to force through a move to bitter domestic foes Barcelona, Alvarez is at war with both the Atletico Madrid fanbase and their hierarchy.

In what has become the latest chapter in this summer transfer drama, Romano also reported on Wednesday that Alvarez was absent from training in midweek due to a reported illness.
