The Houston Astros are making significant changes.
On Monday morning, the AL West club announced its parted ways with general manager Dana Brown. Brown’s contract was set to expire at the end of the season.
Temporarily, owner Jim Crane will oversee baseball operations.
After Brown was fired, speculation about manager Joe Espada’s future with the organization is in question.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, the Astros have already made a decision.
“Manager Joe Espada was informed by a high-ranking Astros official that he will not receive a new contract after the season, and he was given the choice of staying with the team through the duration of the season or departing now,” Nightengale wrote. “He has elected to stay with the Astros, who are 65-66, but still tied for first place in the AL West.”
Espada will remain with the Astros despite being told that he’s out as Astros manager after the 2026 season.
Under Espada, Houston missed the postseason for the first time in nine years in 2025.

Nightengale adds that the Astros could consider senior advisor and Hall of Fame first baseman Jeff Bagwell for the GM position.
“It’s possible that they could turn to Bagwell, if he shows strong interest in the job, with [Charles] Cook expected to get a strong look as someone who’s highly regarded by the organization,” Nightengale wrote.
The Astros will search for a new GM and manager this offseason.
